If you fell victim to the Professional Certification Service (PCS) rip-off TDLR has some tips for you. If you mailed PCS a check the Department encourages you to call yourbank immediately and place a stop payment on the check. If you mailed PCS a money order you should fill out the tracer requestthat was attached to it and submit the tracer to the money orderprovider. If it hasn’t been cashed you can request a new money orderwhich you can make payable to yourself to reclaim your money. Although both the bank and money order company will charge a fee forthe services it should be less than the amount PCS is stealing fromyou. The safe and easy way to renew your license is online at http://www.license.state.tx.us/cosmet/cosmetforms.htm#online.

Dallas Salon Fined $9,000 For Sanitation Violations - TDLR Investigators Confirm 10 Violations Following Complaint
Duc Nguyen, owner of Beverly Hills Nails on Oaklawn Avenue in Dallas, signed an agreed order admitting to the infractions and paid the penalty. One of the provisions of the order is that he and all of his employees take a four-hour sanitation course by September 10th, 2007. The educational hours will be in addition to the 4 hours of sanitation training all cosmetologists must receive to renew their licenses.
In and of themselves, any of these violations present a threat to consumer safety. Together they present a serious disregard of TDLR sanitation guidelines, said TDLRs executive director William Kuntz. Consumers should not have to risk their health and safety for a manicure or a pedicure. Nail salon owners who disregard the guidelines will discover that cutting corners to save a few cents can be very expensive.
Beverly Hills Nail Salon was one of 6 salons investigated by TDLR after an
undercover investigation by Dallas news station WFAA uncovered
apparent violations at the salons. Complaints against other salons are pending.
