Sanitation for Cosmetology:
Introduces those in various service industries (such as hairstylists,manicurists, barbers, etc.) to the issues that might arise should they come into contact w/ blood and/or other body fluids during the course of their work.
Topics covered include
- an overview of HIV/AIDS, how it's spread and HIV prevention,
- sterilization & disinfection
- the distinction between disinfectants and antiseptics
- Universal Precautions (personal cleanliness,, barrier protection, and disinfection),
- other bacterial, viral and fungal infections,

According to the Tx Department of Licensing and Regulations, all Esthetician licensees who renew on or after September 1, 2012 must show the completion of at least 4 (FOUR) hours of department-approved Continuing Ed.

- Health and Sanitation Standards in Chapter 83; and/or
- Curriculum subjects listed in 16 Tx Administrative Code, §83.120

State Regulations:
- • All Cosmetologist licensees renewing their license must show the completion of at least 4 hos of continuing education.
- • All Esthetician licensees must show the completion of at least 4 hrs of CE
- • All Nail Tech licensees must show the completion of at least 4 hrs of CE
- • Each licensee must obtain a Certificate of Completion for each class completed.
- • For late renewal, Cont Ed. must have been completed within the two (2) year
- period immediately prior to the date of renewal.
- Licensees must retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for 2 years after the date of completion.
- Cont Ed. credit may not be obtained for attending the same course more than once for one renewal period.
- State approved CE hours will be required to renew a cosme license that expires on or after September 1, 2012.
- The hrs required must be completed within the term of the license being renewed. (2 years in most instances)
IMPORTANT: The State will not renew your license until you complete your Cont Ed.
