Hours required on or after September 1, 2012
  • To renew an operator license, facialist specialty license, manicurist specialty license,  hair weaving specialty certificate, wig specialty certificate, shampoo/conditioning specialty or  hair braiding specialty certificate that expires on or after Sept 1, 2012, a licensee must complete a total of 4 hrs of department-approved Cont Education.

Sanitation for Cosmetology:
  • Introduces those in various service industries (such as hairstylists,manicurists,  barbers, etc.) to the issues that might arise should they come into contact w/ blood and/or other body fluids during the course of their work.

 Topics covered include
  •  an overview of HIV/AIDS, how it's spread and HIV prevention, 
  •  sterilization & disinfection
  •  the distinction between disinfectants and antiseptics
  • Universal Precautions (personal cleanliness,, barrier protection, and disinfection), 
  • other bacterial, viral and fungal infections,
  • sanitation of hands, tools, and other equipment and 
  • requirements for salon cleanliness as defined under the Texas Administrative Code.

Texas 4 Hr Esthetician Package              

This course package is designed for use by cosmetologists to fulfill continuing education requirements for Texas. 

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, all Esthetician licensees who renew on or after September 1, 2008 must show the completion of at least 4 hours of continuing education. 

This package includes 
  • a 1 hour course in Sanitation and a 
  • 3 hour course in Skin Care Essentials. 

Upon completion of this course package you will have fulfilled the Texas state CE requirements for license renewal.

State Regulations:

  • • All Cosmetologist licensees renewing their license must show the completion of at least 4 hos of  continuing education.
  • • All Esthetician licensees must show the completion of at least 4 hrs of CE
  • • All Nail Tech licensees must show the completion of at least 4 hrs of CE
  • • Each licensee must obtain a Certificate of Completion for each class completed.
  • • For late renewal, Cont Ed.  must have been completed within the two (2) year
  •   period immediately prior to the date of renewal. 
  • Licensees must retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for 2 years after the date of completion. 
  • Cont Ed. credit may not be obtained for attending the same course more than once for one renewal period. 
  • State approved CE hours will be required to renew a cosme license that expires on or after September 1, 2012. 
  • The hrs required must be completed within the term of the license being renewed. (2 years in most instances)

IMPORTANT: The State will not renew your license until you complete your Cont Ed.

Continuing Education Is Required To Renew Your License

Requirements: 

•All licensees renewing  must show the completion of at least

•Visit the TDLR website,  www.license.state.tx.us 
for information about renewing your license online.

• Certificates of Completion will be valid for 2 years (24 months from the date of the class) and may be used for only 1 renewal.
